Islamabad (Lord Media): The National Assembly has unanimously approved 88 demands for grants, including over 3.69 trillion rupees for the defense sector for the fiscal year 2026-27. During the budget session, over 298 billion rupees were allocated for defense affairs and over 109 billion rupees for development expenditures. The opposition did not present any cut motions, allowing the defense budget to pass without opposition.
The assembly also approved funds exceeding 125 billion rupees for communications, 192 billion rupees for education, and over 107 billion rupees for water resources. Funds were also allocated for the Cabinet Secretariat, Foreign Affairs, National Health, Information Technology, and Industry and Production, among other sectors.
Demands for grants were also approved for 111 billion rupees for railways, and for other ministries including Human Rights, Religious Affairs, and Parliamentary Affairs. The National Assembly approved 9 billion rupees for its own expenses and 3 billion rupees for the Senate.
The session, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, approved 89 demands for grants for 29 ministries and divisions. With the approval of the financial demands of various ministries, the federal government has received parliamentary authorization to release funds for the next fiscal year.
