Pakistan urges UN to address Indus Treaty breaches

Islamabad (Lord Media): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called on the United Nations Security Council to address India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Aasim Iftikhar, delivered a letter from the Deputy Prime Minister to the President of the Security Council, highlighting Indian projects on the Chenab River.

Dar stated that India’s projects could impact Pakistan’s water, food, and economic security, posing a threat to global peace. He warned that New Delhi’s actions are a risk to Pakistan’s water security.

Pakistan informed the Security Council that India is initiating illegal projects on the Chenab River system aimed at diverting water.

The Pakistani Foreign Office stated that India’s plan to transfer additional water from the Chenab River to the Beas Basin is a grave violation of the Indus Waters Treaty.

A day earlier, Ishaq Dar mentioned that India could achieve water dominance through various projects on the Indus River system.
