Aizawl (Lord Media): In Mizoram, India, two suspended Border Security Force (BSF) officers have been sentenced to a total of 42 years in prison for gang-raping a woman and throwing acid on her in 2017. The court also imposed fines on the convicts.
The Aizawl district court found BSF officers Nilanjan Das and Dinesh Kumar guilty, sentencing them to 42 years in prison. The sentences include 20 years for gang rape, 10 years for causing grievous harm, and 12 years for the acid attack. These sentences will run consecutively.
The court also imposed a fine of 60,000 Indian rupees for each crime. Failure to pay the fines will result in an additional two months of imprisonment for each offense.
According to the prosecution, Nilanjan Das and Dinesh Kumar assaulted the woman on July 16, 2017, in the Mamit district of Mizoram. BSF sources stated that the officers were suspended immediately after their arrest and will now be formally dismissed following the court’s verdict.
