Health alert issued amid monsoon disease risk

Islamabad (Lord Media): The National Institute of Health has issued an alert across the country due to the risk of various infectious diseases spreading amid severe monsoon rains and floods. According to the institute, diseases such as cholera, typhoid, malaria, and dengue may increase during the rains, with stagnant water potentially facilitating the spread of malaria or dengue.

The National Institute of Health has instructed provincial governments and district administrations to remain on high alert. The statement emphasized activating a monitoring system to prevent epidemics during the monsoon. Contaminated water or food can lead to the spread of diseases like cholera and typhoid.

The NIH advisory warns of the risks of lightning strikes or electric shocks during monsoon rains, advising citizens to stay away from electric poles and fallen wires. There is also a risk of casualties from collapsing walls and roofs during rain or floods.

The advisory notes that incidents of snake bites may increase during floods, and floodwaters can cause dangerous infections to spread. Hospitals have been instructed to maintain adequate stocks of medicines, anti-snake vaccines, and ORS.
