Court hears petition against TikTok content

Peshawar (Lord Media): A petition has been filed in the Peshawar High Court alleging that TikTok is causing societal disruption. The hearing was conducted by a bench comprising Justice Ijaz Anwar and Justice Farah Jamshed.

The petitioner’s lawyer, Barrister Babar Shehzad Imran, informed the court that indecent videos uploaded on TikTok are contributing to societal decay. The court had requested a report from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) regarding the firewall, which was submitted by PTA’s lawyer, Jehanzaib Mehsud.

PTA’s lawyer stated that the system of TikTok and other social media platforms makes it difficult to block specific content, although the authority has blocked numerous accounts.

Justice Ijaz Anwar remarked that if political posts can be blocked, then why not this type of content. The lawyer mentioned that a new body has been established to oversee social media control.

The court has also requested a report from the Social Media Protection and Regulatory Authority and adjourned the hearing.
