China plans offshore airport, stuns world

Beijing (Lord Media): China has unveiled plans to construct an airport over the sea, surprising the world. The Dalian Jinzhouwan International Airport is being built on an artificial island in Jinzhou Bay, marking China’s first offshore airport.

The airport will cover an area of 7.7 square miles, with the first phase of construction already 37% complete. It will feature two runways and a terminal, capable of handling 43 million passengers annually.

In the long term, the airport will have four runways and an expanded terminal, accommodating 80 million passengers per year. The project’s cost is estimated at approximately 7.5 billion U.S. dollars.

The construction of the artificial island requires 56 million cubic yards of material, with pillars set to be installed 82 feet underwater. Air traffic is expected to commence in 2035, and 850 trees will be planted to enhance greenery at the airport.
