UN envoy warns of Afghan terror threat

New York (Lord Media): Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, highlighted at a Security Council meeting that terrorist groups in Afghanistan pose a threat to peace in Pakistan and the region. He emphasized that these groups are involved in cross-border attacks against Pakistan, jeopardizing regional peace and stability.

Asim Iftikhar stressed the need to remain vigilant against elements disrupting peace. He further stated that counter-terrorism, human rights, and good governance are key priorities for Afghanistan.

He informed that the Security Council has expressed concern over the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan, with reports of Taliban elements collaborating with terrorist organizations. According to him, TTP, BLA, Majeed Brigade, ISIS-Khorasan, and Al-Qaeda are active in Afghanistan.

Asim Iftikhar noted that China played an effective role in reaching a consensus on the resolution, and Pakistan will continue to support UNAMA in promoting peace, security, and stability in Afghanistan.

He urged UNAMA to consider the dignified return of refugees, prevention of illegal arms, and address the security concerns of neighboring countries.
