Ebola outbreak worsens in Congo, 181 dead

Kinshasa (Lord Media): The Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) continues to escalate, with the number of infected individuals reaching 782 and 181 fatalities reported.

According to Congo’s Ministry of Health, the epidemic is spreading across various affected provinces, where medical teams are tracking cases, conducting vaccination campaigns, and providing treatment in isolation centers.

Officials have stated that the bulk of the outbreak is concentrated in the eastern regions of Ituri, North Kivu, and South Kivu. In the past 24 hours, 72 new cases have been reported, all from Ituri province.

Ebola is a contagious and deadly virus transmitted through the bodily fluids of an infected person. Congo has faced several Ebola outbreaks over the years, attributed to dense forests and cross-border movement.

To control the outbreak, the government and international organizations are implementing strategies involving vaccination, surveillance, contact tracing, and rapid response. Security concerns and challenging geographical conditions are hindering relief efforts.

The World Health Organization has warned that early diagnosis and immediate isolation are crucial to curbing the spread of the outbreak. Congo’s Ministry of Health has stated that field investigations and vaccination campaigns are ongoing, with more details to be released in the coming days.
