UK limits social media for under-16s

London (Lord Media): The UK government has announced a ban on social media use for children under 16. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated that the decision aims to redirect children’s focus towards education and health. He added that a regulatory body is in place to take action against major tech companies.

Starmer mentioned that regulations concerning gaming services and live streaming platforms are being tightened to ensure the ban’s effectiveness. The government is fully prepared and confident in this initiative.

Last month, the Prime Minister’s government initiated consultations on this issue to shift children’s attention from mobile phone and laptop screens to education and health.

Globally, there is a swift response to the unchecked use of social media due to its negative impacts on the health and education of the younger generation, as well as potential social issues.
