Moon sighting unlikely for Muharram 1448

Lahore (Lord Media): Meetings of the central and zonal Ruet-e-Hilal committees for the sighting of the Muharram 1448 moon will be held on June 15. However, the Meteorological Department and Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council have indicated low chances of moon visibility.

The central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will convene at Badshahi Mosque in Lahore to review testimonies regarding moon sightings from across the country. The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad.

According to the Meteorological Department, the new moon will be born at 7:54 AM on June 15, making the chances of sighting the moon on the evening of 29th Dhul-Hijjah across the country negligible.

The department stated that most areas of the country are expected to have clear or partly cloudy weather, but the young age of the moon will be a major hindrance to visibility. In Punjab, the moon is expected to set at 7:59 PM.

Khalid Ijaz Mufti, Secretary General of the Ruet-e-Hilal Research Council, stated that at sunset on June 15, the moon’s age will be less than 12 hours across all regions of Pakistan, whereas the moon is generally required to be over 18 hours old for visibility.

According to the council, after completing 30 days of Dhul-Hijjah 1447, the first of Muharram 1448 is likely to be on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. However, the final announcement will be made by the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
