New Delhi (Lord Media): India has lodged a protest with Washington following increasing attacks on Indian commercial ships in the Gulf. The U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in New Delhi, Jason Meeks, was summoned again to express concerns over the threats in Gulf waters.
On Thursday night, the ‘MV Jal Veer’ was attacked near the port of Shinas in Oman, involving 20 Indian crew members. This follows a June 10 attack that resulted in the deaths of three Indian sailors.
The U.S. Central Command has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that the ship was carrying oil in violation of Iran’s naval blockade, prompting a U.S. aircraft to fire a missile at the engine room to disable the vessel.
The Indian government has issued new security guidelines for Indian sailors in Gulf waters. According to official figures, there are 622 Indian crew members on 13 Indian-flagged ships in the region, with 18,000 Indian citizens employed on other vessels.
