ICC announces tentative dates for 2027 World Cup

Ahmedabad (Lord Media): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the tentative dates for the ICC Men’s One Day World Cup 2027. The tournament will return to African soil after nearly 25 years, with South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia co-hosting the event.

According to media reports, the World Cup 2027 is expected to take place from October 4 to November 21. These dates were approved at a recent ICC board meeting, with final confirmation anticipated at the annual general meeting in Edinburgh next month.

Reports indicate that South Africa will host the majority of the matches, with at least 41 out of 54 games to be played at eight different venues across the country. Zimbabwe is expected to host 8 to 10 matches, while Namibia is set to host 3 matches.

This will be the first One Day World Cup in Africa since 2003, which was also co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Kenya.

The 2027 World Cup will see the return of a 14-team format. The last two editions featured only 10 teams. Teams will be divided into two groups of seven, with the top three from each group qualifying for the Super Six stage.

As full ICC member nations, South Africa and Zimbabwe are expected to qualify directly, while Namibia will need to go through a qualifying stage to secure a spot in the event.
