China has expressed willingness to work with the United States to ensure stable and constructive bilateral relations based on mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and win-win cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Thursday.
According to details released by Chinese state media, Wang Yi made the remarks during a meeting in Beijing with a visiting bipartisan delegation of U.S. senators led by Senator Steve Daines.
Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the visit marks the first bipartisan Senate delegation to China since President Donald Trump took office, expressing hope that the lawmakers would gain a clearer understanding of China’s development and policy direction.
He said China’s approach to U.S.-China relations remains consistent, emphasizing that both sides should regard mutual respect as the foundation, peaceful coexistence as the guiding principle, and mutually beneficial cooperation as the goal.
Wang stressed the importance of narrowing differences in perception and urged both countries to adopt the concept of “harmony without uniformity,” adding that China does not seek hegemony even as it develops.
He called on the United States to view China objectively, respect its core interests, and manage differences constructively, while jointly pursuing practical cooperation that benefits both nations and contributes to global stability.
The Chinese foreign minister added that stronger cooperation between the world’s two largest economies would send positive signals to the international community.
The U.S. senators, according to Chinese state media, shared their impressions from the visit and exchanged views on bilateral and international issues of mutual interest during the meeting.
Both sides agreed on the importance of continued dialogue to prevent misunderstandings and maintain stability in one of the world’s most consequential bilateral relationships.
