The long-dormant Parachinar Airport in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district has been reactivated after remaining non-operational for an extended period, according to official sources.
The restoration of operations was made possible through coordinated efforts of the Pakistan Army, the Frontier Works Organisation, and the Pakistan Airports Authority.
Sources said that Pakistan Army Aviation conducted operational landing and take-off trials on April 26 to assess the readiness of the facility. A total of six successful test landings and take-offs were carried out during the exercise.
Officials confirmed that the runway was evaluated against professional aviation standards and declared compliant with high safety benchmarks following the trials.
The revival of the airport is being viewed as a significant development for regional connectivity in the remote tribal district, potentially improving access and mobility for local residents.
