Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has held a meeting with Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during his ongoing visit to Pakistan, diplomatic sources said.
According to a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy, Araghchi’s first formal engagement upon arrival was with the army chief, where matters of mutual interest, regional security and bilateral cooperation were discussed.
The Iranian foreign minister is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the Prime Minister’s House later today. The meeting, expected shortly, will be attended by senior political and military leadership, while the Iranian side will include members of Araghchi’s delegation, sources added.
Officials said the talks will focus on Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations, evolving regional dynamics and key diplomatic issues. Both sides are expected to exchange views on recent developments in the Middle East and broader geopolitical alignments.
Following his engagements in Islamabad, Araghchi is set to depart for Muscat and Moscow to continue diplomatic consultations.
Sources indicated that outcomes of consultations held in Pakistan may also be shared with US officials, while a possible visit of an American delegation to Pakistan will be decided at a later stage.
Iranian officials, meanwhile, noted that no final timeline has yet been set for potential negotiations between Tehran and Washington, adding that greater clarity is expected after the minister’s visits to Oman and Russia.
