The Punjab government has launched a new employment-linked agriculture initiative titled “Apna Khait Apna Rozgar”, aimed at providing livelihood opportunities to unemployed and landless individuals, officials said on Friday.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari said the programme marks another step in the provincial government’s welfare agenda following earlier initiatives such as “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” and the allocation of free residential plots for homeless citizens.
She said the new scheme, introduced under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is designed to promote what she described as an “agricultural revolution” in the province.
According to her, the initiative will provide cultivable land along with financial assistance ranging from Rs50,000 to Rs250,000 to eligible beneficiaries to help them begin agricultural activity.
Officials said around Rs160 billion worth of land is being allocated to landless rural residents across Punjab, strictly for farming purposes.
Azma Bokhari added that the provincial government has already introduced a range of farmer support measures, including the Kisan Card, distribution of green tractors, super seeders, and solarisation of tube wells, which she said had contributed to record wheat production in the province.
She described the chief minister as “pro-farmer and pro-agriculture”, stating that the agriculture sector remains a top priority of the provincial government’s development agenda.
