United States President Donald Trump has indicated significant progress in ongoing negotiations with Iran, suggesting that a potential agreement could be reached within days, according to a telephone interview with Axios.
Trump said there is a strong possibility that a deal with Iran could be finalised within “one or two days,” adding that US and Iranian negotiators may meet later this week to shape a final framework for an agreement.
He said the proposed deal could help reduce tensions in the Middle East and contribute to strengthening regional security, including that of Israel.
The US president also commented on the situation in Lebanon, stating that he wants Israeli strikes there to stop as part of any broader ceasefire arrangement. He added that Israel must halt its ongoing military operations.
Trump further remarked that Israel “cannot continue destroying buildings,” stressing that the United States would not permit such actions to continue unchecked. His remarks are being viewed by analysts as a notable diplomatic signal amid heightened regional tensions.
International observers say that if a US-Iran agreement is reached, it could mark a major step toward de-escalation in the Middle East. However, they caution that sustained diplomatic engagement and restraint from all parties will be essential for any lasting breakthrough.
