China has extended congratulations to Hungary’s Tisza Party, led by Péter Magyar, on its reported victory in the parliamentary elections, expressing readiness to further strengthen bilateral ties with the incoming government, according to the Chinese foreign ministry.
At a regular press briefing on Monday, foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Beijing places “high importance” on the development of relations with Hungary and is willing to expand cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and equality.
According to preliminary results cited by Hungary’s National Election Office, the Tisza Party secured a majority in the polls, defeating the ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
The spokesperson said China hopes to enhance high-level exchanges with the new Hungarian leadership, strengthen political trust, expand practical cooperation, and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges for mutual benefit.
Beijing’s statement comes amid a broader push to maintain stable relations with European partners despite shifting political landscapes across the region. The comments were made during the daily briefing of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
