Iran has said that while some progress was achieved during the recent negotiations with the United States in Islamabad, key differences on several critical issues prevented a final agreement.
In a statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei thanked the government and people of Pakistan for hosting the talks, describing the Islamabad dialogue as an important diplomatic effort involving sensitive and significant matters.
He said that over the past 24 hours, detailed discussions were held on major issues including the Strait of Hormuz, Iran’s nuclear programme, war reparations, and the lifting of sanctions. Broader regional tensions and prospects for lasting peace were also part of the negotiations.
According to the spokesperson, differences persisted on two to three key points, which ultimately hindered the conclusion of a final agreement. He reiterated that Iran would continue to utilize all available means to safeguard its national interests.
Baghaei added that the success of the diplomatic process depends on the seriousness and goodwill of the opposing side, stressing the need to avoid unnecessary demands and recognize Iran’s legitimate interests.
