China urges de-escalation as Israeli attacks on Lebanon continue

China calls on relevant parties to resolve disputes through political and diplomatic channels, and exercise calm and restraint to de-escalate the situation, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said Friday.

The U.S.-Iran ceasefire arrangement should put an end to the war and restore peace and stability in the region, Mao said at a regular news briefing in response to reports that Israeli attacks on Lebanon continue.

China reiterated that escalation in regional conflicts risks further destabilizing the broader Middle East security environment, and stressed that sustained military actions undermine prospects for peace. The spokesperson emphasized that diplomatic engagement remains the only viable path to long-term stability.

Beijing has repeatedly urged all involved sides to avoid actions that could widen the conflict and instead prioritize dialogue, consultation, and adherence to international efforts aimed at de-escalation.

Mao Ning said China supports efforts that contribute to reducing tensions and restoring calm in conflict-affected areas, while calling on influential parties to play a constructive role in preventing further deterioration of the situation.

China also underscored that any ceasefire understanding should be effectively implemented to halt hostilities and create conditions for rebuilding regional peace and stability.
