China backs Pakistan’s mediation role in Middle East tensions

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said that mediation efforts by the Pakistani side regarding Middle East tensions are in the common interests of all parties.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during talks with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar in Beijing. The two sides exchanged views on current international issues and regional conflicts.

Wang welcomed the Pakistani delegation’s visit to Beijing for discussions on easing tensions in the Middle East, following its participation in a quadrilateral foreign ministers’ meeting in Islamabad. He said China supports Pakistan’s role in helping de-escalate the situation and facilitate the resumption of peace talks, noting that such mediation efforts align with the common interests of all stakeholders.

He added that China is willing to work jointly with Pakistan to help end hostilities as soon as possible, create conditions conducive to peace, and open avenues for negotiations.

On bilateral relations, Wang said this year marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan, urging both sides to implement the consensus reached by their leaders and further advance the China-Pakistan community with a shared future.

For his part, Dar described the Pakistan-China friendship as strong and deeply rooted, stating that Pakistan is committed to strengthening its all-weather strategic cooperative partnership with China. He thanked China for supporting Pakistan’s mediation efforts and noted that the ongoing conflict has disrupted global energy supplies and impacted developing countries.

Dar emphasized that dialogue remains the only viable path forward and expressed Pakistan’s readiness to enhance coordination with China to promote early peace talks and regional stability.

The two sides also put forward a five-point initiative aimed at restoring peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East region.
