China objects to US lawmakers’ visit to Taiwan, lodges protest

China has firmly opposed official interactions between the United States and the Taiwan region, stating that it has lodged stern representations with the U.S. side over recent developments.

According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, the remarks were made during a regular press briefing on Monday in response to a visit to Taiwan by four U.S. senators. She urged the United States to take concrete steps to safeguard broader China-U.S. relations and maintain peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.

Mao emphasized that the United States should adhere to the one-China principle and the three China-U.S. joint communiques, handle the Taiwan issue with caution, and refrain from engaging in any form of official interaction with the Taiwan region. She also called on Washington to avoid sending what she described as wrong signals to separatist elements advocating “Taiwan independence.”

Reiterating Beijing’s stance, Mao stated that China’s position on the Taiwan question remains consistent and clear, adding that the country will take all necessary measures to defend its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
