ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): Major relief for electricity consumers across Pakistan, including Karachi, is nearing its end. The quarterly adjustment relief, which reduced electricity prices by 1 rupee 99 paisa per unit, is set to expire this month, raising concerns of a price hike from next month.
Electricity consumers nationwide have been receiving relief exceeding 67.17 billion rupees through the quarterly adjustment from January to March 2026. This relief, which began in June 2026, will conclude in August after its three-month duration. The adjustment for April to June 2026 is expected to be implemented next month.
Electricity distribution companies have submitted a request to NEPRA to transfer a burden of over 23 billion rupees onto consumers, which equates to an approximate increase of 1 rupee per unit. However, the exact increase in the quarterly adjustment will be determined by NEPRA.
