ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): The Federal Constitutional Court has issued a notice to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) regarding a petition against the dismissal of the Haris Steel Mills reference, instructing the current status to be maintained until the next hearing. Bank’s counsel, Khawaja Haris, argued that loans were fraudulently obtained using forged documents, implicating some officers of the Bank of Punjab.
Justice Hassan Azhar Rizvi questioned whether documents were not scrutinized at the time. He remarked that precautions are often neglected until after an incident occurs.
Justice Aamer Farooq highlighted the issue of whether NAB’s decision to dismiss the reference can be challenged. Further hearings have been postponed until after the court’s recess.
The court suspended interim orders of the Sindh High Court regarding the inquiry against the Sindh Public Service Commission, halting interviews of successful candidates and rechecking papers of unsuccessful ones.
A bench led by Chief Justice Ameenuddin Khan rejected the customs’ plea to stay the return of goods in an appeal against the annulment of an FIR on Iranian diesel smuggling.
Customs’ counsel stated that seized smuggled diesel is auctioned, to which Justice Rozi Khan noted that a single tanker permit is often misused to bring in multiple tankers.
Meanwhile, the court issued a written order nullifying the Supreme Court’s decision to demolish Monal Restaurant, asserting that the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has the authority to approve any construction project or activity within the Margalla Hills National Park for public interest.
