WASHINGTON (Lord Media): U.S. Senators have introduced a new sanctions draft against Russia, easing energy tariffs for China and India. The bill reduces the tariff on major Russian oil and gas buyers from 500% to 100%.
The bill, prepared with the late Senator Lindsey Graham’s collaboration, has support from both Republican and Democrat Senators. It aims to impose sanctions on Russian officials and pressure China and India to reduce their reliance on Russian energy.
The draft also includes exemptions for countries importing less than 15% of Russian natural gas exports. Japan, France, Hungary, and Belgium could benefit from this exemption.
The bill also targets Russian oil tankers, the central bank, and major energy projects. The President will have the authority to suspend these sanctions in the national interest.
President Donald Trump mentioned that there is consideration to include sanctions against Iran and Hezbollah in the bill, while Democrat Senator Richard Blumenthal urged to advance the current draft.
