Court rejects Punjab Police hiring policy

ISLAMABAD (Lord Media): The Federal Constitutional Court has rejected the Punjab Police’s policy of not hiring constables or personnel based on pending FIRs. The court stated that the constitution does not allow administrative authorities to overlook individual facts in recruitment policies.

The court emphasized that administrative discretion should be exercised wisely, with a logical connection between the available material and the outcome.

The court declared the refusal of appointments solely based on past FIRs as arbitrary, indicating a mechanical application of policy.

Upholding the Lahore High Court’s decision, Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan’s ruling stated that such conduct cannot be maintained in a constitutional decision.

The court advised that the appointing authority should assess a candidate’s past records within constitutional limits.
