Palestine announces elections after 20 years

PALESTINE (Lord Media): Palestine has announced the third legislative council elections after 20 years, set for November 28. According to a presidential decree by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, these elections will take place across all Palestinian territories, including the occupied West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza. The last elections were held in 2006, resulting in a victory for Hamas, which subsequently led to increased tensions between Fatah and Hamas.

Analysts suggest that the recent announcement is a result of international pressure, as several countries demand reforms and transparency to continue cooperation. However, there are numerous challenges to holding the elections, including the possibility of Israel preventing voting in East Jerusalem.

The current conflict situation in Gaza also poses difficulties for conducting the elections. Mahmoud Abbas, elected in 2005, has been governing through presidential decrees since then. He has hinted at future presidential elections, but it is unclear if he will run again.
