Japan arrests teen over ChatGPT-assisted cyberattack

TOKYO (Lord Media): A 15-year-old student in Japan has been arrested for allegedly using ChatGPT to delete 46,000 anime accounts. According to police, the student launched a cyberattack on Bandai Namco Filmworks’ streaming service ‘Bandai Channel’, disrupting its operations. Authorities suspect fraudulent interference with business via streaming in November 2025.

Investigators revealed the teenager exploited the platform’s weak security, forcing the company to temporarily suspend parts of its service. The accused admitted to using computers since fourth grade and creating source code with ChatGPT.

During questioning, the suspect stated there was no animosity towards Bandai Namco Filmworks, but rather the ability to log into most accounts.
