Lahore (Lord Media): Director of High Performance Aaqib Javed emphasized that the selection of the Test team should be based solely on the ability to take 20 wickets. During his participation in ‘Straight Drive with Salman Butt’, he discussed his cricket journey, player pathways, and selection matters.
Aaqib Javed also shared his views on central contracts, academy structure, and cricket development. He stated that under the leadership of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, serious and positive steps are being taken for cricket development across the country.
He further mentioned that Test cricket selection should revolve around the ability to take 20 wickets, as there is no room for unnecessary experiments in Test cricket. Selection should consider conditions, combinations, and the ability to win matches.
Aaqib Javed highlighted the importance of proper management of young fast bowlers for Pakistan cricket, noting that Aamir Jamal impressed with his pace, sharpness, and ability to bowl long spells in the camp.
Regarding Ali Raza, he noted that while he is a talented fast bowler, he should not be overloaded hastily and should be given time to build physical strength.
