Auditor General uncovers major financial irregularities in Water Ministry

Islamabad (Lord Media): The Auditor General of Pakistan has uncovered financial irregularities amounting to 7 billion U.S. dollars during the audit of the Ministry of Water Resources and its subordinate bodies for the fiscal year 2024-25. The audit reviewed 112 administrative units within the ministry, assessing expenditures of 359.6 billion U.S. dollars and receipts of 194.2 billion U.S. dollars.

Despite identifying these irregularities, the audit report confirmed that only 2.8 million U.S. dollars were recovered from January to December. The report highlighted severe weaknesses in internal control systems, violations of public procurement rules, and administrative failures, including those within WAPDA.

The Auditor General’s report categorized the irregularities into seven major types of institutional failures, with the most significant issues arising in financial management.
