MQM threatens opposition benches if demands remain unmet

Karachi (Lord Media): MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar has warned the federal government that a letter will be sent to the National Assembly Speaker if demands such as recovery of missing persons, implementation of Article 140A, Sindh governorship, and an urban development package are not met.

During a press conference, Farooq Sattar announced that MQM-Pakistan will soon request the National Assembly Speaker to allocate opposition benches for its 22 members. He reminded that in 2022, an agreement was signed between the People’s Party and MQM, with Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari signing and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as the guarantor.

Farooq Sattar proposed the creation of an administrative unit to hand over Karachi to the federation. He claimed that the People’s Party informed them that the removal of the Sindh Governor was not their doing, and the federal government should clarify this issue.

On the other hand, Sindh’s senior minister Sharjeel Memon dismissed Farooq Sattar’s press conference as political blackmail, stating that MQM has lost public trust and is using federal intervention as political pressure, which amounts to blackmail.

Sharjeel Memon further stated that handing over Sindh’s affairs to the federation is a conspiracy against the federal structure, and that the people of Sindh have given a clear mandate to the People’s Party, which cannot be changed by any press conference or political blackmail.
