28th amendment will be introduced after consultation: Tarar

Lahore (Lord Media): Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar announced that the 28th Amendment will be introduced after thorough consultation, ensuring no haste in the process. He mentioned that consultations were also held for the 26th and 27th Amendments. The performance of High Court judges will be evaluated annually, and the Judicial Commission can send references against judges whose performance is unsatisfactory.

During a speech to lawyers in Lahore, the Federal Minister announced a grant of 20 million U.S. dollars for the Bar Vocational Course, emphasizing the need for practical steps to uphold the rule of law. He stated that the interview process for the appointment of judges is being initiated.

Azam Nazeer Tarar elaborated that a constitutional system is being introduced to assess judges’ performance annually. References can be sent against judges with unsatisfactory performance.

The Law Minister assured that the 28th Amendment will be brought after complete consultation, and efforts are being made to strengthen the admission process to improve legal education. He added that arrangements with NADRA for a biometric system have been finalized.

During the event, Independent Group Head Ahsan Bhoon emphasized the need for consultation with the government on the 28th Amendment to ensure constitutional supremacy. Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council, Pir Masood Chishti, welcomed the inauguration of the Lawyers’ Academy.
