Gilgit-Baltistan (Lord Media): A 40-year-old French climber has died in an avalanche while attempting to scale the Baltistan Peak in the Hoshe Valley of Ghanche district, Gilgit-Baltistan. Local authorities reported that the climber, Pierre Guillaume, was part of a three-member international expedition aiming to conquer the 7,282-meter-high peak.
According to police, the incident occurred during the ascent when a sudden avalanche of snow and rocks struck, resulting in his immediate death.
Local officials and rescue personnel have confirmed the incident, stating that efforts are underway to transport the body to the base camp. Authorities further mentioned that the other two members of the expedition have yet to return to the base camp.
The rescue and recovery operation involves local police officers, volunteers, and mountaineering support staff who are working to locate them.
