Political alliance forms in Gilgit-Baltistan

Gilgit-Baltistan (Lord Media): An alliance has been formed in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Istehkam Pakistan Party (IPP), resulting in the unopposed election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker. Imran Nadeem from PPP has assumed the role of Speaker, while PML-N’s Kifayat-ur-Rehman Advocate has been elected as Deputy Speaker.

Candidates supported by MWM and PTI did not participate in the electoral process. Naveed Qamar from PPP stated that the Chief Minister will be from PPP, while the positions of Governor and Deputy Speaker will be allocated to PML-N.

Former Speaker Nazir Ahmed administered the oath to the newly elected Speaker Imran Nadeem and handed over his seat. According to sources, the election of the Chief Minister is also expected to be unopposed.

After PML-N, the Istehkam Pakistan Party also announced its support for PPP. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari contacted IPP President Abdul Aleem Khan, inviting him to form a government together, which was accepted. Abdul Aleem Khan stated that they will support the election of the Chief Minister and Speaker in Gilgit-Baltistan.
