England struggles against New Zealand in Oval Test

Oval (Lord Media): England found themselves in trouble against New Zealand on the second day of the Oval Test. Despite a promising performance on the first day in the absence of captain Ben Stokes, poor strategy and a brilliant century by Glenn Phillips shifted the momentum in New Zealand’s favor.

New Zealand extended their innings from 291 for seven to finish at 391. For England, Emilio Gay scored a half-century while stand-in captain Joe Root made 46 runs. However, the team suddenly came under pressure, losing three wickets for just 35 runs.

Ben Duckett’s run-out and Matt Henry’s wickets proved costly for England. By the end of the day, England had lost six wickets for 222 runs, still trailing by 169 runs.
