Islamabad (Lord Media): According to the Pakistan Economic Survey 2025-26, the consumption of wheat, rice, pulses, milk, and meat among Pakistanis has decreased over the past six years. This trend reflects the pressure on the lower-income segment due to rising food prices and shrinking incomes.
Between 2018-19 and 2024-25, there was a decline in the monthly per capita consumption of essential protein sources such as grains, pulses, milk, and meat, while the use of vegetable ghee increased.
Statistics reveal that the monthly per capita consumption of wheat and flour dropped from 7.0 kilograms to 6.59 kilograms, rice from 1.06 kilograms to 0.86 kilograms, and pulses from 0.35 kilograms to 0.26 kilograms.
Similarly, the per capita consumption of fresh milk decreased from 6.85 kilograms to 6.15 kilograms, and meat (beef, mutton, and chicken) consumption fell from 0.61 kilograms to 0.50 kilograms.
