Islamabad (Lord Media): The telecom sector contributed 285 billion U.S. dollars to the national treasury in the first nine months of fiscal year 2026. This amount, collected through taxes and duties, highlights the sector’s significant role in government revenue.
According to the Economic Survey, telecom subscriptions in the country exceeded 207.2 million by March 2026, including both mobile and fixed connections. The tele-density was recorded at 82.6 percent, indicating the availability of telecom facilities relative to the population.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) generated over 142.6 billion U.S. dollars from the auction of the 5G spectrum. This auction, held on March 10, 2026, involved the sale of radio frequency spectrum licenses to companies.
The Economic Survey states that the telecom sector is not only a major source of government revenue but also plays a crucial role in promoting digital development and connectivity.
