Islamabad (Lord Media): Provinces have agreed to cover the federal fiscal deficit, as decided in a joint meeting of the government’s and Pakistan People’s Party’s budget technical committee. The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister Aurangzeb, and officials from the Federal Board of Revenue.
According to sources, the federal government had requested a total of 1,700 billion rupees from the provinces. Punjab has offered to contribute more than 500 billion rupees to assist the federal government. Senator Saleem Mandviwalla stated that all four provinces have agreed to provide the required 1,200 to 1,700 billion rupees to the federal government.
Mandviwalla mentioned that the federal government’s demand was only about the procedure, and the delay in the budget was due to the Gilgit-Baltistan elections and the unavailability of the President and Prime Minister.
The National Economic Council meeting is scheduled for today, while the federal budget will be presented on Friday. Federal Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the 2026-27 budget.
