China has launched a global artificial intelligence-based education service platform aimed at expanding access to digital learning and promoting cross-border sharing of educational resources, According to the Chinese state media.
The initiative was unveiled during the 2026 World Digital Education Conference held in Hangzhou in eastern China’s Zhejiang province, where policymakers and education experts gathered to discuss the future of smart learning systems.
Officials said the platform is part of the upgraded “Smart Education of China” system, which is now accessible in around 220 countries and regions. The expanded version includes new features such as a lifelong learning hub and a dedicated Chinese language learning community.
The conference, which runs from May 11 to 13, also featured the release of a report highlighting China’s policy progress and innovation in digital and smart education.
An additional initiative on AI in education was also introduced, calling for greater use of artificial intelligence to support inclusive, sustainable and well-rounded human development.
The proposal further emphasized the need to reduce the global digital divide by improving access to high-quality educational resources and digital tools through smart education platforms.
