Hamas on Monday rejected Israeli media reports alleging that the group is rebuilding its military capabilities and preparing for renewed attacks from the Gaza Strip, saying the claims were part of a campaign to justify further Israeli military escalation.
Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem, in a statement, reiterated that the group remains committed to the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10, despite what he described as continued Israeli violations of the truce.
Israeli media, citing officials, reported that Hamas has been exploiting the ceasefire period to rebuild its infrastructure and consolidate influence in Gaza, while discussions continue over strengthening and formalising the fragile truce.
According to Israeli reports, the military is also considering reductions in Gaza aid flows amid suspicions that Hamas is diverting funds through taxation of local merchants to finance both administrative and military activities.
