The United States and Iran are reportedly considering a phased ceasefire framework aimed at ending ongoing tensions, restoring maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, and initiating broader diplomatic negotiations, according to international reports.
According to international media reports, the proposed arrangement is being developed as a memorandum of understanding designed to reduce regional instability and restore key global trade routes.
Under the reported US plan, the agreement would unfold in three stages. The first phase would include an official declaration to end hostilities between the two countries. The second phase would focus on de-escalation in the Strait of Hormuz and the resumption of normal maritime movement. The third phase would initiate a 30-day round of negotiations covering major political and nuclear issues.
US media reports suggest that Washington has presented a 14-point proposal to Tehran, requiring Iran to halt uranium enrichment for at least 12 years and provide guarantees that it will not pursue nuclear weapons. The plan also calls for Iran to hand over approximately 440 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60 percent.
In return, the United States would reportedly ease economic sanctions in phases, unfreeze billions of dollars in Iranian assets, and lift naval restrictions imposed on Iranian ports.
The proposed agreement also includes provisions for fully restoring maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days of signing, a move expected to stabilise global oil supply chains and energy markets.
Analysts say that if the deal progresses successfully, it could significantly reduce tensions in the Middle East and ease pressure on the global economy, which has been affected by prolonged instability in the region.
