China urges US to end sanctions and blockade on Cuba

China has called on the United States to immediately end its blockade, sanctions, and all forms of coercive pressure against Cuba, terming such measures unilateral and contrary to international norms.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, the spokesperson strongly criticised recent US sanctions against Cuba, saying they represent an escalation of “illegal and unilateral coercive measures” that seriously affect the Cuban people’s right to development and livelihood.

The spokesperson said China firmly opposes the use of sanctions and pressure tactics in international relations, adding that such actions violate the basic principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Reaffirming Beijing’s position, the spokesperson stated that China supports Cuba in safeguarding its sovereignty, security, and development interests, and rejects any external interference in Cuba’s internal affairs.

The remarks came in response to renewed US sanctions measures against Havana, which Cuban authorities have described as unjustified and harmful. Havana has repeatedly called for an end to what it terms an “economic blockade,” arguing that it affects essential services and development sectors.

China and Cuba maintain longstanding political and economic ties, with Beijing consistently opposing sanctions regimes it considers unilateral and politically motivated.
