China’s Ministry of Commerce has strongly opposed recent United States measures targeting telecommunications and certification sectors, warning that the move could undermine global trade stability and industrial cooperation.
The reaction came after the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) introduced new rules on Thursday that would disqualify testing and certification bodies from countries without mutual recognition agreements with the United States, and restrict telecom services linked to entities on its so-called “covered list.”
A spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce said the FCC had abandoned the principle of technology neutrality and expanded the concept of national security in an unjustified manner, adding that the measures discriminate against Chinese and other foreign enterprises.
The spokesperson stated that the decision harms the interests of China and other trading partners and risks destabilising global supply chains in telecommunications, electronics, and related industries.
He further warned that such actions could disrupt international trade order, slow technological innovation, and even negatively impact US industries and consumers by weakening supply chain security.
China urged the United States to respect market principles, respond to industry concerns, and immediately withdraw the measures.
The ministry also reiterated that Beijing will take necessary steps to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies if the US proceeds with implementation.
