Iran FM to visit Pakistan again amid regional diplomacy

Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi is expected to return to Pakistan following his ongoing regional diplomatic engagements in Oman, before proceeding to Russia, according to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, citing the Foreign Ministry’s schedule.

Iranian media reported that part of the Iranian delegation accompanying Araghchi during his initial visit to Islamabad has returned to Tehran for consultations and instructions on matters related to efforts aimed at ending the Iran–U.S.–Israel conflict. The remaining delegation is expected to rejoin the foreign minister in Islamabad on Sunday night.

During his earlier visit to Pakistan, Araghchi met senior Pakistani officials and conveyed Tehran’s position on what he described as a “workable framework” for ending the conflict and restoring regional stability.

In a post on social media platform X, he termed the visit “very fruitful” and praised Pakistan’s “good offices and brotherly efforts” in supporting peace initiatives.

He also said Iran was still assessing Washington’s willingness to pursue diplomacy, adding that Tehran had yet to see “if the U.S. is truly serious about diplomacy.”

According to IRNA, Araghchi arrived in Oman’s capital Muscat on Saturday night for talks with senior officials on bilateral relations and wider regional developments.

The diplomatic activity comes in the backdrop of heightened regional tensions following the reported joint U.S.-Israel military actions on Iranian targets on February 28, which Iran says resulted in casualties among senior commanders and civilians. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes against Israeli and U.S. positions in the region.

A ceasefire was reportedly reached on April 8, followed by inconclusive talks in Islamabad on April 11–12. Further negotiations had been expected this week, though Iran has indicated it would not participate while the U.S. naval blockade remains in place.
