China has expressed concern over the reported interception of an Iranian cargo vessel by the United States, urging restraint and caution amid rising sensitivities in key maritime routes.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday that Beijing is closely monitoring developments following media reports that a vessel bound for an Iranian port was seized by U.S. authorities.
Guo described the situation in the Strait of Hormuz as “sensitive and complex,” warning that any escalation could further heighten regional tensions.
He said China hopes all relevant parties will adhere to ceasefire understandings with a responsible approach, avoid actions that could intensify conflict, and work to create conditions for the resumption of normal navigation through the strait.
Beijing reiterated its call for restraint, emphasizing the importance of maintaining stability in one of the world’s most critical energy and shipping corridors.
