China urges immediate ceasefire and talks in Iran conflict

China has once again urged all parties involved in the Iran war to immediately halt military operations and begin peace talks as soon as possible, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Thursday.

At a regular press briefing, spokesperson Mao Ning made the remarks following recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who reportedly threatened to intensify strikes on Iran over the coming weeks as part of efforts to conclude the ongoing conflict.

Mao emphasized that military action cannot provide a lasting solution and warned that escalation serves no party’s interests. She called on all sides to resolve disputes through dialogue and negotiation, noting that continued hostilities could adversely affect the global economy and energy security.

Responding to media reports alleging attacks on Iranian universities during the conflict involving the United States and Israel, Mao reiterated China’s opposition to strikes on civilians and civilian infrastructure. She stressed that attacks on educational institutions represent a serious violation of international humanitarian law and urged an immediate end to hostilities to prevent further humanitarian consequences.
