French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday said that using military force to “free” the Strait of Hormuz is unrealistic, emphasizing that diplomacy remains the only viable solution to the Iranian nuclear issue.
Speaking during a visit to South Korea, Macron told French media outlet BFM TV that military action “has never been the option we have chosen, and we consider it unrealistic.” He warned that without a framework for diplomatic and technical negotiations, tensions could escalate again within months or years.
Macron also responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s accusations, stressing that military operations against Iran “are not our operation” and were undertaken unilaterally by the United States and Israel.
Trump had posted on his social media platform Truth Social claiming that France would block planes carrying military supplies to Israel from passing over its territory, describing the country as “very unhelpful” and warning that the U.S. would “remember.”
