At least 20 people were killed and several others injured in a series of Israeli airstrikes targeting southern Lebanon overnight from Saturday to Sunday, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry as reported in international media reports.
The Health Ministry’s Emergency Operations Center reported that an airstrike in the Nabatieh district killed seven people and injured eight others. Separate strikes hit the village of Henniyeh, where seven more people were killed, and the village of Jouaiya, resulting in two deaths and three injuries.
Earlier incidents included an airstrike on the village of Ebba that killed two people. Another strike near a facility close to Bint Jbeil Hospital in the city of Bint Jbeil killed two paramedics affiliated with the Islamic Health Authority.
In response, Hezbollah said it launched rockets and drones targeting multiple Israeli military bases and positions along the Israel-Lebanon border. The group also claimed to have fired an air defence missile at an Israeli helicopter over the village of Adaisseh, forcing it to retreat.
Meanwhile, Israel confirmed that one of its soldiers, identified as a U.S.-Israeli national, was killed during combat operations in southern Lebanon. The military said 22-year-old Sergeant Moshe Yitzchak Hacohen Katz, from New Haven, Connecticut, served in the Paratroopers Brigade.
Cross-border clashes between the two sides have continued since March 2, when Hezbollah launched rockets toward Israel for the first time since a ceasefire agreement reached on November 27, 2024. The escalation has triggered intensified Israeli airstrikes across southern and eastern Lebanon, as well as on Beirut’s southern suburbs, further raising concerns over regional stability.
