Pakistan, Qatar announce roadmap for final U.S.-Iran deal within 60 days

Pakistan and Qatar on Monday announced that the first session of high-level talks under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) had concluded in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, with participants agreeing on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final agreement between the United States and Iran within 60 days.

According to a joint statement issued by Pakistan and Qatar following the conclusion of the Lake Lucerne Summit and the first meeting of the High-Level Committee, representatives of Iran, the United States, Pakistan and Qatar held discussions in what was described as a positive and constructive atmosphere.

The statement said the parties agreed to establish a High-Level Committee to provide political oversight of the mediation process. Chief negotiators will report regularly to the committee and lead working groups on nuclear issues, sanctions, monitoring mechanisms and dispute resolution to ensure effective implementation of the MoU.

It said the committee had endorsed a roadmap for achieving a final deal within 60 days and approved the immediate continuation of technical-level negotiations.

The parties also established a direct communication line to prevent incidents and misunderstandings and to facilitate the safe passage of commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, a de-confliction cell involving the parties and Lebanon, facilitated by Pakistan and Qatar, will be created to ensure adherence to the cessation of military operations in Lebanon as outlined in the MoU.

Technical talks will continue throughout the remainder of the week in Bürgenstock on all outstanding issues, the statement added.

Pakistan and Qatar reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the negotiations and expressed appreciation to the United States and Iran for their continued commitment to diplomacy and a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

The two mediating countries also thanked friendly nations for their support and contributions to the ongoing negotiations.
