Edinburgh (Lord Media): Following alleged racial incidents in Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital, police have involved the counter-terrorism unit in the investigation. Five people were injured in these attacks, and one suspect has been arrested.
According to Police Scotland, several emergency calls were received on Friday night reporting violence, threats, robbery, and vandalism at various locations. The incidents left five individuals, aged between 22 and 39, injured.
Police reported that three of the injured were taken to the hospital, though none are in critical condition. Authorities have arrested a 36-year-old white Scottish man, and investigations are ongoing.
British media reports indicate that the initial incidents occurred near a mosque in the Sighthill area of Edinburgh, where two individuals were attacked. Subsequently, three more people were targeted in other parts of the city.
Videos circulating on social media show a person allegedly roaming the city’s streets with a large weapon. Some Muslim organizations claim the arrested individual was chanting anti-Muslim slogans.
The Scottish Association of Mosques and the organization ‘MEND’, which works against Islamophobia, stated that several Muslims were among the victims. They demand that these incidents be viewed in the context of Islamophobia and far-right extremism.
Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney expressed deep concern over the incident, stating that there is no place for violence, racism, and religious hatred in the country.
Assistant Chief Constable Catriona Paton described the incidents as “deeply regrettable and shocking,” emphasizing that racism and religious hatred will not be tolerated in Scotland.
Analysts note that these incidents occur amidst rising political and social tensions in the UK over immigration, racial diversity, and religious harmony. Similar incidents have been reported in various UK cities in recent weeks, raising concerns among security agencies.
